This was the project that started it all. It was based on the book, This is Paris, by Miroslav Šašek. It was made mostly of foam core, cardboard, tape, and Paint, as well as some found objects. The Eiffel Tower had individual holes poked in it so we could string the Holiday lights in it. Since we have very little room for storage, and the Eiffel Tower was too huge to fold, we were only able to do this display twice before having to trash most of it.
This time it was just for fun. We wanted to do something special for Halloween that showed how special we think Portland is. We chose to create a giant spider that collects different local Icons. We continued to mostly us Foam Core. It was particularly fun when the Unipiper and Cat Rapper Came by to check it out.
This was when we switched from mostly foam core to using plywood. Through social media, we asked the local artist, Mike Bennett about what jigsaw we should get, and we took his advice and have had a wonderful time with it ever since.
We decided to make it look like woodland creatures were celebrating and decorating our yard for the holidays
We decided to do a smaller display that just covered the porch for Valentines Day
We brought back "This is Paris" with the addition of the Slug and Snail Museum that included a spinner to find your Soul Slug or Snail Mate. We restored the Eiffel Tower, but we knew i was only a temporary fix..
This time, we entered the Porch Parade again (The Rose Festival still couldn't have a live Rose Parade because of the pandemic) and we came in second place and won a visit from the Rosarians and he Clown Prince to present us with the prize of a rose bush that was bred special for this Year's Rose Festival.
This time we decided to make Cisco a werwolf (or werbostonterrier) and Alice a witch. We went back to foam core for most of this, and all of it pretty much fell Apart because we never got to keep it out of the weather.
